Welwyn U7's v Bishops Stortford
This week 7/3/2009 we were at home to Bishops Stortford. We were missing a number of our players this week due to other commitments.
We played three hard fought games with Bishops Stortford in the end our tagging let us down and we lost 8-6 , 7-4 and 6-3. Again we played well and the score-line does not reflect the effort Welwyn put into theses games some great running and passing. It is the tagging that is letting the side down.
Players of the week Jack for scoring 3 tries and Ewan for commitment to play.
Under 7's cancelled due to rainThis Sunday due to heavy rain I have decided to cancel this mornings training (28th February)
Welwyn U7's v BarnetThis week 21/2/2009 saw us at Barnet. The under 7's put on a brave performance as did all the parents as it was bitterly cold and snowing at the start of the day.
Welwyn were unable to play both teams today and we played Barnet's sole team. Barnet were not feeling the cold and they were off. Welwyn put in a good effort let down again by poor tagging and we were left defeated Barnet 8 Welwyn 6.
The morning was young and Welwyn were keen to play a second match. They had been told about their poor tagging in the first game. They went out and with some excellent running and much better tagging Welwyn were the victors. Welwyn 10 Barnet 8.
Come on Welwyn get those tags they will win the games. We have a great attacking side with some good passes and a great team spirit.
Two players of the week awards (Jude) some great running. (Matthew) staying onside and scoring his first try. Well done to both.
Next week we are home training at 10am-11.30am
This week 7.2.10 we were at home to Harpenden. It was quite a change from the indoor luxury we have been used to due to the poor weather.
This week we were able to put forward two teams (Welwyn Reds) Finlay, Thomas, Jude, Henry, Ioan. Ewan, Adam, Del, and Sean. And ( Welwyn Blues) Huw, Alfi, Luca, Joseph, Jamie, Nick, Fionn, Matthew and Jack.
Welwyn reds captained this week by Finlay were off to a good start but not as good as Harpenden who were a bit more switched on to tagging. It was a closely fought game in which Welwyn tried their hardest but in the end were narrowly beaten 8-6. Welwyn fought back in the second game and with some good tagging and great running won 9-6. The final game and Welwyn were feeling the effects of their first outdoor game for some time. Harpenden were the stronger side winning 9-6. A good start to Sean Archer his first game in the reds and awarded player of the week.
Welwyn Blues captained by Huw were also suffering from being outside in the cold. Welwyn fought hard in all three games with the tagging and passing improving in each match. The first match was lost 4-1 the second was lost 3-1 and the final match drawn 3-3. Player of the week for the blues
Overall some great running from Welwyn. The end result although disappointing did not reflect the effort that Welwyn showed. Some better tagging and we will be tough to beat.
