With a very long break due to Christmas and the snow the Welwyn Warriors Under 15 girls finally got to play some rugby.
From the off the Welwyn girls showed the type off rugby they are known for with Lotte Clapp running in four tries against Guildford which were all converted by Abbie Maxwell. But then Welwyn took their eye off the game and, before Welwyn could do anything about it, Guildford had levelled the score by half time with some well worked tries making it four tries each.
The start of the second half saw a shell shocked Welwyn team dig deep and start playing there game again with 3 more tries from Lotte Clapp with Abbie converting them all again .
With ten minutes to go after a good strong powerful run, Abbie powered over the line to score a well earned try but could not convert for the extra two points. But the try of the day came from Beth Summerfield as she took a pass in her own half and ran the other half for a great individual try all the time with her sister Kate running on her shoulder should she be needed to make the final score Welwyn 59 Guildford 31

Welwyn under 15 girls played their 3rd Surrey league game on Sunday against the Hampshire Penguins who are a 3 club cluster team made up of Basingstoke, Petersfield and Havant rugby clubs.
In a very good strong game which saw the Welwyn girls play some of the best rugby to date they finished the game 27- 5 winners with trys from Lotte Clapp x3, Rachel Selwood and Amber King and one convertion from Abbie Maxwell which made it 3 wins out of 3 for the young Welwyn team. The Penguins defended well and had a strong pack which led to them winning most of the scrums, they eventually made it through our strong defence to score their only try, Welwyn had three girls making their debut on Sunday Danielle, Cholie and Emilie all never having played rugby before and the coaches look forward to seeing them continue to develop with the team.

After being runner up in the Herts Sports Awards coach Greg Maxwell had to get back to the serious business of a Welwyn u15 league game against Ellingham & Ringwood who have always been a strong side when the two clubs have met previously.
Unfortunately due to the half term holiday Ellingham & Ringwood only had 8 players so Welwyn lent them two players so they could play 10 aside. Welwyn kicked off and started the stronger team, it was not long before Lotte Clapp was given the ball from a move from the forwards and ran in the first of her three trys. Ringwood got themselves together very quickly and with a break away try down the wing scored the first of their two trys.
Welwyn soon got the second half going with a very quick try at the start of the second half but again Ringwood came back with anther try but by this time Welwyn took control and ran in three more trys by Sid Nurthen. Bryony Pomfret and Beth Summerfield with Abbie Maxwell converting twice making it a good all round team performance. A special mention should go to Rachel Selwood for the way she played today, the runs and angles she took were out standing and also Ellie Hurer who's was outstanding as full back with at least 4 try saving tackle's.
Greg maxwell said we have some very new players that are now becoming a big part of the team and the team are now starting to gel very well, some of those new girls played today for the opposition and played to the best of their ability I know it was a big ask but without them doing this we would not have been able to play the game so thanks goes to Sarah Blisset, Eleanor Dixon, Lucy Corrigan and Kate Summerfield.

Welwyn Warriors u15 girls continued their good start to the season with victory in the Surrey League over the Guildford Gazelles. Both Welwyn and Guildford had players missing but both coaches decided to play ten aside it was Guildford that started the stronger putting Welwyn on the back foot from the start.
Welwyn soon organised themselves and Lotte Clapp ran in the first of the Warriors six trys, converted by Bryony Pomfret, then Rachel Selwood scored Welwyn's 2nd try. Guildford put up a fight and scored a try in the first half but Welwyn's fitness and commitment was to much for a tiring Guildford side in the end Welwyn took control of the game with 4 more tries by Bryony, Stevie Farrow and Lotte Clapp scoring another 2, Stevie also added a conversion making the final score 34 - 10.
