Warriors Girls Hunting New Talent!
Charlie White (17) & Jess Lane (17) both members of the highly
successful Welwyn Warriors Girls rugby team are on the 'Warpath' to
find new talent to add to the already impressive pool of talent at
the
Hobbs Way club. Stanborough School sixth former Charlie and Jess,
who
is at Hitchin college have been running 'taster' sessions for girls
rugby in the local junior schools.
Warrior's Coach Clive Cramphorn is delighted. 'It shows us the
benefit
of being part of the 'Welwyn-Hatfield Sports Alliance'. By being
part
of that we got to talking to Hatfield Hyde Cricket Club. They make
no
bones about the fact that they model their colts section on how we
at
Welwyn run ours. Where the cricket club is ahead of us is that they
are putting their U17 players into junior schools to promote cricket
and recruit new players. We liked that idea and Charlie and Jess are
the first two Warriors girls to take their coaching badge and get
into
the schools. In the spring more of our girls are lined up to take
the
coaching course and like Hyde we're going to roll this out across
Welwyn-Hatfield'.
Colin Smyth, Welwyn-Hatfield's Sports Partnership officer is equally
pleased, 'The swapping of ideas and information is one of the best
reasons to be part of the Alliance. The progress rugby and cricket
are
making in the District is really satisfying to see'.
Charlie & Jess will be taking part in further coaching sessions
soon.
