Junior Warriors lead the way as Letchworth are Whitewashed!!

Welwyn Warriors U17s, unbeaten for 3 years, now have some new pretenders to their crown and they're from the same club!! On Sunday at Hobbs Way, Warriors hosted Letchworth and the U14 side romped home 122-0! 5 tries for Hannah Gallagher, 4 for Frances Dawson, 4 for Harriet Lilley, 3 for Rachel McCullough, 2 for Becky Dawson and 1 each for Ellie Atkinson and Millie Porter did the damage as Warriors simply swept Letchworth aside. Hannah Gallagher's kicking heaped on the agony for the North Herts visitors.

Warriors U17s by comparison only managed 52-0 as they took on Letchworth complete with East of England star Hayley Guilder. After a stuttering start Warriors forward pressure told as Hannah Marques, Emma Cramphorn and Hitchin's Mel Waites and Clare Foster hammered the Letchworth pack. The visitors hardly got into the Warriors 22 at all. Letchworth had to tackle hard constantly as Welwyn's backs, Michelle Brophy, Charlie White, Lana Block,Megan Williams & Emily Matuszcyk repeatedly broke their line. Jess Lane and Mel Harcourt switched play all the time keeping the visitors guessing. 4 tries for Williams, 3 for Brophy and 1 for Carly Simpson were their reward. Jordan Pearcy & Catherine Gilbert were always a threat on the wing as Warriors coasted home.

Girls rugby, Herts girls rugby in particular, doesn't get a lot of coverage. The Warriors girls seem to always be overlooked despite their superb record. The publicity that is around goes to less successful clubs. Dave Marques has been tasked with putting that right, he said, 'Welwyn has achieved so much but whenever you read about girls rugby in Herts they never get a look in! We're going to put that right. If you've got it - flaunt it! The Warriors girls have 'it' in spades & we certainly intend to flaunt it from now on!'
