Pinner 0 Welwyn Warriors 45
Welwyn Warriors travelled to Middlesex on Sunday to take on Pinner as
their search for tougher opposition continues but this search must go
on; Pinner were simply overwhelmed as Warriors U17s won 0-45 maintaining
their unbeaten run.
On a glorious sunny day Warriors rampaged from the first whistle. Their
first charge into the Pinner half caused panic amongst the Pinner backs
led to a forward pass. From the scrum Jess Lane found Emily Matuszczyk,
back on top form, her strong run made room for Michelle Brophy to score
under the posts. From the re-start, Warriors skipper, Charlie White,
planted a deep kick back into the Pinner 22. More Warriors pressure
turned over the Pinner scrum and Brophy poached another try which was
converted by Megan Williams 0-12.
New girls Jordan Piercey and Catherine Gilbert continue to shine. A
great run from Gilbert released White who produced another huge kick.
Hannah Marques collected the loose ball and sent a stunning pass out to
Matuszczyk on the wing who simply roared in for a scintillating try
which Williams
converted.
Mel Harcourt and Lana Block nailed every Pinner break in midfield. Emma
Cramphorn surged forward time and again ably supported by Sarah Stedman
and Carly Simpson. As against Hertford, Warriors tackling was immense.
One hit by Marques was greeted with gasps from the touchline as the
shock waves reached the watching parents!
3 tries for Williams and 1 for White completed a comprehensive Warriors
performance.
The U14 match which followed the U17s was stopped after just 5 minutes
with Welwyn 3 tries ahead. 2 tries for Harriet Lilley and 1 for Hannah
Gallagher were enough to convince the referee to mix up the sides and
play the match as a fun friendly.
