Welwyn took on Datchworth
in their first match of the morning. It was a hard fought game with
Welwyn dominating it territorially but finding it difficult to
breach a determined Datchworth defence. The teams went into the
second half deadlocked at 0-0 and with the game seemingly heading
for a draw Welwyn had other ideas, with the last play of the game
they drove down the centre to within a yard of the Datchworth line,
the ball was then worked quickly wide finding Bradleigh Lack who
crashed over the line for the winning score.
The second game against Hitchin proved hard going as Welwyn had to
go straight into the game after the Datchworth match with no break.
Welwyn dug in and put up a spirited performance. They looked to have
earned a draw when Gavin Brown went over for a try converted by
Bradleigh Lack which made it 7-7. But this time it was Welwyn's turn
to concede a late try. Hitchin taking the game 12-7. Forward Tom
Webb was Welwyn's outstanding player of the morning.
