AMPTHILL SUFFER LANDSLIDE!

Bedfordshire side, Ampthill, became the latest victims of the unbeaten Welwyn Warriors at Hobbs Way on Sunday. Ampthill's U14s were blown away by the home side 90-0! 7 tries for Springbok Frances Dawson, 6 for Hannah Gallagher and 3 for Harriet Lilley made up the bulk of the score. Millie Porter and Becky Dawson gave more than able support in the comfortable win.

The U17s also triumphed, 69-0! Ampthill never getting into the home 22. The Welwyn forwards gave away a lot of weight in the pack but their superior scrummaging and mobility ensured that the pace of the Warriors back row could always be fully utilised. The forwards won Welwyn so much ball, the result was never in doubt. Scrum half Jess Lane stifled all Ampthill's moves at the scrum and with the Welwyn pack piling on the gas Megan Williams helped herself to 4 tries as well as converting 6 more. Michele Brophy scored 2, Emily Matuszcyk, back to her best, roared in for the opening try. Jordan Pearcy & Charlie White completed the scorers. The Warriors line-out is improving all the time, Mel Harcourt winning plenty of ball off the impeccable throwing of Hannah Marques. Lana Block is slotting well into the front row while Carly Simpson keeps improving in the loose.

The girls are still fighting to gain full recognition for their skills. They keep winning against all comers because of the coaching they have and the skills and determination they possess! It cannot be their fault they are so dominant. They can only play what is in front of them. Rather than deriding their efforts as 'not real rugby' as can be heard in some quarters, a little more along the lines of, 'well done!' would be fairer on what is a very fine
set up.
