Last Match Review
Saracens miss chance to move into top four...
Saracens were beaten 19-8 at Gloucester on Saturday and the coaching
staff were far from happy with the display at Kingsholm.
Matt Cairns scored the only try of the game for the Men In Black with
Glen Jackson adding a first half penalty, but tries from Mark Foster and
James Bailey saw the home side to victory.
"We were very disappointed with the performance," said Director
of Rugby
Steve Diamond after the match. "
We were dreadful and it was
the worst performance of the season from us - we have to go away and look at
ourselves.
"We were poor in all departments. We had a bad day at the office -
although that really doesn't sum it up. We shouldn't be having days like
today and we didn't stick to the basics. Our set piece fell to bits, our
defence wasn't great and we couldn't find touch in the first half. So
overall it was dreadful."
Saracens did get back into the game late in the second half and crossed
the line through Cairns and had other good chances in the Gloucester 22.
"We didn't show any fight until it was too late," added Head Coach
Mike Ford, "But we'll learn from it, go back to the training ground and come
out stronger next week."
Next Game
Saracens head to The Causeway Stadium in the final round of the Pool
Stages of the new Powergen Cup where they face champions Wasps.
It could well be a winner takes all tie, depending on what goes on at
the Madjeski Stadium between Irish and Cardiff, with Saracens needing a win
to have any chance of progressing to the Semi Finals at the Millennium
Stadium.
Wasps are currently flying high in the Guinness Premiership under new
coach Ian McGeechan and with their international contingent of Lewsey, Van
Gisbergen, Voyce, Dawson and Shaw all likely to be back Saracens face a
tough task.
Next Home Game
Saracens vs Ulster
Saracens return to European Heineken Cup action on SATURDAY 17th
December with their next home game against Irish Provincial team Ulster. The
kick off is earlier than usual at 1.00pm, for what is sure to be a bruising
encounter. With Saracens top of Pool 4 in the tournament, the Irishmen will
be aiming to topple the Men in Black. Bring it on!!!
