Powergen National Rugby Community Programme (PNRCP)…

2005/6 will be the fourth consecutive season that Powergen has sponsored the National Rugby Community Programme (PNRCP). The scheme, which is the largest of its kind in the World has grown year on year and now boasts over 42,000 active participants each season. The programme is designed to take the sport of rugby union into schools and rugby clubs local to the 12 Premiership teams, to enable as many youngsters as possible to gain exposure to rugby union and hopefully continue to play.

This year over 300 schools and 156 local rugby clubs will be visited by more than 1000 professional rugby players as part of the PNRCP initiative. Saracens will be working with 36 Schools throughout Watford, Three Rivers, St Albans, Welwyn and Hatfield. Saracens Players will work alongside the community departments as well as teachers from local schools to deliver a six-week programme of TAG Rugby. This includes an assembly talk from a professional player as well as a donation of a set of TAG Rugby equipment to each school visited. The scheme will enable teachers to continue to coach TAG Rugby effectively following the programme, in the hope that rugby will become a sustainable sport in those schools that did not previously play.

Powergen hope that via the National Rugby Community Programme schools and junior rugby clubs will continue to benefit from exclusive access to professional players and coaches from the Guinness Premiership, and that those that take part in the scheme continue to play rugby union for years to come.

For more information on the Powergen National Rugby Community Programme please email hannahpirnie@saracens.net or call 01923 204 612
