Next Home Game
Saracens vs Bath – Sunday 12th February Kick Off 15:00
Whilst the squad are obviously focusing on this weekend’s all-important
Heineken Cup match in Biarritz, the team behind-the-scenes have turned
their attention to the club’s next home game, against Bath on 12th
February. With the match falling just two days before Valentine’s Day,
it provides a fantastic alternative to the usual flowers, chocolates and
posh dinners! Ladies can keen their men happy by indulging their passion
for rugby, and in what other circumstances would a husband be happy for
his wife to ogle 30 fit men in shorts?! And for those single people out
there, a Sunday afternoon of top-flight sport could be just the place to
meet your perfect match!
The theme for the day is “Say It With Sarries” and in the weeks leading
up to the game we’ll be having a bit of fun on saracens.com by featuring
‘lonely hearts’ ads for players of both teams, which will change every
couple of days – keep your eyes peeled for a change of ad this afternoon
when entering the site, when a former Saracen now playing for the
opposition will be featured!
You can save money by booking in advance on saracens.com (a couple
wishing to sit in the Upper Rous will save £12 booking online compared
to paying on the gate!) Tickets are on sale online now, or by calling
the Ticket Team on 01923 475222 and pressing for option 1.
Remember, this Valentine’s Sunday, Say It with Sarries!
Player News
Coaches announce December Player of the Month...
Back row forward Ben Russell has been selected by Saracens
Coaching Team as the December Player of the Month with the youngster
topping the pile over the festive period.
Although he didn't play in every game, in fact he was called back from
England Sevens duty at the beginning of the month, but he has impressed
since then and is a worthy winner of the award.
Ben beat off the challenge of Dan Scarbrough and Shane Byrne with Tevita
Vaikona also making a late surge but the flanker's consistency and work
rate were enough to take him clear.
“He's been our most consistent player,” explained Head Coach Mike
Ford, “and after coming back from South Africa early, which was credit
to him, he has taken his opportunities very well.
“His work rate over the period has been exceptional and it's really good
to have players like him, David Seymour, Ben Skirving, Steffon Armitage
and the like who are keen, talented and showing great maturity,
particularly in the light of players that we are missing in that area
like Richard Hill and Alex Sanderson.”
Coaches receive injury boost...
Saracens have received a welcome boost today with the news that several
players are winning their fitness battles ahead of what is a very
important January as the club fights to stay in contention for both a
top four place in the premiership and a Quarter Final berth in the
Heineken Cup.
Centres Thomas Castaignede and Dan Harris have both been
cleared to return to full training after recovering from short and long
term injuries while Simon Raiwalui, has been given the all clear
to take contact after recovering from a knock in training. Also Cobus
Visagie is making good progress with his elbow injury.
Prop Nick Lloyd is making good progress after recovering from a
neck injury and he has begun light training while Richard Haughton
is rehabbing well after suffering a broken ankle at Bath and is still on
schedule for a return some time in February.
“We have started to see a few of our injured players return to full
training,” commented Head Coach Mike Ford, “which is great news
as January is a very important month for us. With the youngsters still
champing at the bit to stay invovled in the first XV we are looking
forward to having selection headaches over the coming weeks.”
