Worcester Warriors vs Saracens
Saturday 17th September
Kick Off 15:00
Saracens head to Sixways to face an unbeaten Worcester on Saturday with
last season’s new kids on the blocks building on the first season’s success.
A draw against Gloucester in the opening game of the season was followed
up by an impressive away win against London Irish at the Madjeski Stadium in
Round 2 and the Warriors will take a lot of spirit from their opening games
and return home full of confidence.
New recruits Shane Drahm and Andy Gommersall have both featured recently
and Saracens will be facing a tough test with the home team looking to
stretch their unbeaten run further.
Match report
Saracens 34 Leeds Tykes 16
Saracens claimed maximum points in style with a four try haul against
Leeds Tykes.
The game burst into life in the sixth minute with a marvellous opening
score. Ben Skirving broke one tackle passed the ball round the next defender
to the supporting Dan Scarborough. The full back then sped ahead of the
midfield and after making 20 yards send a bullet cross-field pass to Thomas
Castaignede who raced in from 20 metres to score a brilliant try.
Jackson added the extras and extended that further through a penalty
some 7 minutes later. Leeds got on the scoreboard with a penalty but Jackson
was on target again to extend the lead to 13-3 and better was to follow as
Saracens exhibited their dominance with a superb second try.
In an ‘offloading masterclass’ Kevin Sorrell rushed through to score
under the posts and bring the crowd to their feet, Jackson again converted.
Dan Scarbrough had the final word of the first half. The full back
received the ball in needed no help as he brushed aside four defenders to
score superb solo effort.
The home crowd didn’t have to wait too before they were celebrating
again. With a line out in the Leeds 22 a catch and drive was initiated with
the Cairns completing the move and taking the ball at the back of the maul.
The forwards powered over allowing him to touch down the all-important
fourth try.
Three penalties and a late interception try is all the visitors could
manage as Saracens out muscled their opponents in the damp conditions and by
the time the hooter went for full time Saracens five point haul was already
banked in their Guinness Premiership account.

Coaches pleased with progress after Leeds win...
Director of Rugby Steve Diamond and Head Coach Mike Ford were pleased to
take five points from Sunday's victory over Leeds Tykes - adding there were
a number of positives to take from the performance but also still lots of
work to do.
Speaking after the game, Diamond said:
"We were very pleased with the
scrum, our set piece and defence. Overall, we were happy with the first
half, but we lost a bit of control as the game wore on and we will have to
address that."
Ford added: "Last week against Wasps, there were positives and negatives
that we took out of the game. In the build-up to this weekend, we've built
on the positives and worked on the negatives. We'll go through the same
process this week as we build up to the Worcester match."
Following the game, the coaching duo were asked by the media about the
latest on Andy Farrell's toe injury and Diamond said it's likely to be a
further 2-3 weeks before he is back in action.
"
It's one of those injuries that just requires rest," explained
Diamond. "If he comes back too soon the injury will be with him for the rest
of the season which will be no good for the club or the player. So we're
just putting him on the back burner at the minute. He's doing lots of
off-feet training work and he'll be back when he's ready."
