A comprehensive all round performance from the Warriors U17s squad was far too much for an inexperienced Chesham side on Sunday at Hemel Hempstead. Completing a fantastic weekend for the Hobbs Way club, the first team’s promotion on Saturday was followed by the Girls reaching their first National final, in Lichfield, in 2 weeks time and producing a record score for the team.
Warriors ran in 15 tries, 7 for Hannah Gallagher, 4 for Sophie Tyler, 2 for Alex Robertson and 1 apiece for Charisse Fallon & Hannah Marques.
Warriors played some fantastic rugby, great support play all round. Skipper Lana Block was superb, playing her best game of the season. Forwards, Milly Fuggles & Ema Burgess always won turnover ball and Hannah Marques was never out of the rucks and mauls for Warriors. Hannah Gallagher made some great angles and always had support from Charisse Fallon & Alex Robertson. Sophie Tyler, even amongst the great performances all around her, stood out. She had a fantastic match and well deserved her 4 tries!
Leading 52-0 at half time, Warriors made positional changes and their strength in depth showed and Chesham never found any way through. Some great tackling from Emily Matuszczyk & Mel Harcourt snuffed out the odd break Chesham had. Debuting at scrum half for the semi fit Casey Shults, Geri Thomas made a real impact. Her clever moves and solid passing always had the Stags defence guessing. Claire Foster & Megan Heather made some big tackles when it mattered.
Much credit should go to Chesham. For a new team to face Warriors in such form was a big ask and they never let their heads go down and kept plugging away to the end.
Warriors can go to the finals knowing they can match any team on the day.
