Firstly, a belated ‘Happy New Year! Christmas seems a long time ago, perhaps made longer by the weather intervening to disrupt our training sessions! Please do all you can to get to training. Making yourself available for matches is great but if we don’t practice as a team it will show up in the matches! Letchworth has recruited 10 East of England triallists for the National cup and they’ve been training together! We’ll never have a better chance of making the final but I fear we have a deal of compliancy setting in, the semi final will be the toughest day you’ll have had in rugby, the prize is massive, don’t throw it away thinking, ‘we’re already sorted’.
We’ve had some good news on the funding front! Herts Sports Partnership has given us £1,000 for Luke & Jess to undertake some club/school coaching in the area. Both the council and the local schools are really supportive and we hope this will be just the start for our recruitment of additional new players!
Welwyn-Hatfield council has give us just short of a thousand pounds and this means we will shortly be getting 2 full sets of ‘away’ kit. The shirts will have maroon and white hoops like the first team, maroon shorts and hooped socks. Thanks to everyone at the council for having faith in us!
Some big dates are coming up, on the 28th there will be the regional trials, all of you going are good enough to make regional standard. Have faith in yourselves and be positive!
On the 4th of Feb the U17s will play in the National cup semi-finals. Their recent 70-0 win over Bucks in Aylesbury was a big boost just ahead of the cup. We don’t yet know where the venue will be. Letchworth, Wimbourne and Ivel Barbarians are the other teams in the pool.
On Weds 24th Jan. the Welwyn-Hatfield Sports awards will take place at Campus West. Welwyn Warriors has been nominated as best team, Luke in the best coaches category and Dave Marques in the service to sport category. Hopefully, this year, Warriors will come back with the trophy and they have been cruelly overlooked in the past couple of years!
Following the final whistle in the MK/Bucks match, we got a great photo of some of the U17s, the caption competition entries, are as follows:
Charity Car Park! Big thanks to everyone that helped out, we raised just over £100 for the girls account.
Easter Tour 2008. As you know, we hope to visit France again. Failing that, Wales or Scotland. Alison Voyle has kindly agreed to Chair our fund raising committee BUT she will need all of us to weigh in and help her! After the Rochford game on the 4th March we’ll hold a short meeting in the bar to kick things off! Please try to be there as we’d like to take all the girls on tour and it’s a lot of money we need to raise!
Clothing: I’m still waiting on some cheques for hoodys delivered before Christmas, please, I need the cheques ASAP!!
Council Grants. I understand that at least one of our girls has been successful, congratulations! Please let me know if you are successful as I’d like to keep a note of numbers for future grant bids.
Emerging Schools Rugby. Welwyn will host the Herts pool for this national schools tournament. Ask your school PE dept if they’ve entered a girls team for it!
Joint Forwards Training with Saracens. The first session is this Thursday, 7.30-9pm. Please try to get along. If you need a lift, please let me know & I’ll see what I can do for you!
Contact details: Laydeez……………if you change your mobile number or e-mail address (Charisse & Jordan)..please update me with the new one it does help, honest!!
Finally, good luck to us all, National Cup, Regional trials, sports awards, emerging schools, do your very best and I’m sure you’ll be successful!
