WELWYN WARRIORS GIRLS RUGBY TEAM

‘Coeur de Guerrier'.

A new season is underway and Biarritz seems an awfully long time ago!

Things have moved on as players have left and we welcome on board the new faces. It goes without saying that The Warriors owe a huge debt of thanks to June, Lorraine & Clive for all the time and effort they put in and I know we all wish them well for the future! To those girls who have moved on to senior rugby – all the very best with your new clubs.

When I was asked to take over from June, I was delighted to accept, as I’m excited at the prospects we have here at Warriors. We have some great players and our coaches will make them better! Long term we must recruit and motivate lots of new players, year on year, so that we can develop our own women’s team and expand the playing opportunities for the younger end of the age scale.

The U 14s & U17s will train on Weds evenings from 7.00-8.30pm. Luke Williams will coach this group with assistance from Pete McCullough, Chris Gallagher and others.

I know we have several parents willing to help out and around the club other people have offered to give up an occasional evening or Sunday morning to help us. Please, don’t just stand on the touchline – the more help we get, the more we can offer and the more the girls will improve. From holding a tackle bag to cooking the post match food, we need your help!!

While Easter 2008 seems a long way off, we’d like to organize a tour to the Ile De France, the area around Paris. 3 or 4 matches plus sight seeing in the capital. I’ll send round a form about this soon. If we ALL get stuck into the fund raising now – the cost will be less later on!

I’d like to raise the ‘awareness factor’ so I’ll be circulating a list of ‘Warriors’ clothing, rain top/training top, polo shirts, hoodys, rugby shirts. We have a great set up here – let’s show it off!

We have signed an agreement with local Company Tylers, to supply the girls section with kit at subsidised prices for the next two seasons. In addition, as a ‘start up’ gift every girl and coach will get a free Canterbury warm up tee shirt.

The girls section Management Group consists of Dave Marques (Manager), Pete McCullough (Asst Manager), Rita Williams (Fixtures), Luke Williams (U17 Head Coach) & Chris Gallagher. If you have any suggestions anytime, or you can help out in any way, please speak to any of the Management Group.

Everyone here at Warriors will be working to get all our players as far as we can, whatever their ability. We have a great record of girls playing for both the County team and The East of England region and some further than that!

Help your coaches. Turn up on time and ready to train! Wear appropriate kit and bring a drink with you! We will work you hard and if you train hard your game and your potential will grow and grow!

It only remains for me to wish you all a happy and successful season!

Best Regards,
