With many players unavailable due to illness or holiday, Welwyn fielded a much changed A team.
Welwyn made a slow start conceding 2 tries in the first half. Although creating a few good scoring chances, taking the ball into contact without support resulted in Barnet stealing the ball and putting Edward B under pressure with long kicks deep into Welwyn territory. Barnet used this ploy well and scored both their tries when Edward was caught in possession with no support.
The second half was much better. The forwards started to retain good ball ,this freed up Liam and Harry to create more attacks using Ian to surge into the Barnet half with his trade mark powerful runs. Unlike the first half the support was on hand to keep the attack going. With Liam getting to every breakdown early this made for quick ball which Judd took full advantage of, supporting well to go over twice. Harry coolly added the conversions to tie the game. In the end Welwyn were unlucky not win the game playing by far the better rugby.

Welwyn again let the opposition start the scoring but this against the run of play. The forwards were playing well and producing good ball and the new set of backs were tackling well and beginning to find their attacking feet.Welwyn started the second half 7-0 down and now playing uphill. Starting from a breakdown on the left wing Ellie spotted that Liam was not going to get there in time to distribute the ball and took over the scrum half duties, wisely shipping the ball quickly to the backs .
Outside centre Andrew Norris received the ball early and cut through the Hemel defence like a knife through butter before releasing the ball to Edward Cole did likewise before turning and presenting well for Alex Rose to go over for his first try since returning from injury. Harry converted. This spurred Welwyn on and more strong running from Andrew N resulted in Ian F going over for what was to be the winning try. Harry steady as ever duly kicked the conversion. But this was not the end of Hemel who threw one last effort to save the game at Welwyn. In the last play of the game they ran strongly past the Welwyn backs and looked like getting past the winger who only managed to slow them down a little. That was enough time for Max to storm across and make a thundering tackle which took the Hemel player off the pitch and won the game for Welwyn. Well done to everyone who played . I am most impressed by the way you have all improved this season.
