Yet more success for Welwyn girls rugby sides

Welwyn Warriors Under-15 girl's rugby side were victorious in the Gloucester 10's tournament, winning their section without conceding a point!

In the group stage they defeated Old Northamptonians 40-0, Worcester 2nds 33-0 and Worcester 1sts 7-0 at Hartpury College, incidentally where Premiership Gloucester RFC train.

The semi-final was against Burfield and resulted in a straightforward 19-0 win for the Warriors.

In the cup-final Welwyn played Worcester 1sts again, but in a game that they dominated, they struggled to break down a dogged defence.

However they still won with a single unconverted try from Charlie Faloona.

Welwyn Girls Under-15 assistant-coach Adrian Pomfret said: "This is a prestigious tournament to win, especially as prior to today Welwyn had never beaten Worcester.

"As well as the Trophy we have won some fantastic prizes from the sponsors, including £1500 of made-to-measure mouth-guards for the girls and a full set of kit, of our design, for 22 players."

The Warriors were also joined at the rugby festival in the West Country by the Welwyn Saints Under-18 team.

And the strong side were similarly just as successful.

The Saints battled their way through to the Plate final where they beat Newquay/Cullhumpton 10-7 in a tight finish to seal yet more glory for the Welwyn Girls rugby sections.
