Welwyn-Saints U18 girls travelled to Lewes on the south coast to register their fourth successive league win of the season beating “H3 and SS” (Hastings, Heathfield, Helingly and South Sussex) 71 points to nil.
Speedster Alex Robertson and captain Hannah Gallagher both scored hat tricks in a Welwyn-Saints performance that was marked by great teamwork from both forwards and backs. The first try was typical, secure ball from the scrum allowed a sweeping backs move and at the breakdown Sam Voyle recycled the ball quickly to maintain the attack and Georgia Peedle broke through the middle to score the first of her 2 tries.
Frankie Dawson’s superb driving play was rewarded with a try and back-row dynamo Geri Thomas took her tally to 21 points with 1 try and 7 conversions.
The Welwyn-Saints front five, including Hannah Marques, Milly Fuggles and Mica Gooding were in excellent form giving the scrum-halves Emma Wilson and Abi Lee room to provide great service to the backs. Harriet Bullock, playing her first game was outstanding in the front row and it was fitting that the forwards should have the final say when in the last minutes of the game her fellow front-rower Emma Burgess sprinted 50 yards to score. Welwyn-Saints ran in winners at 71 points to nil.
Great credit goes to H3 & SS, who made Welwyn work hard for their points and continued to play rugby right up to the referee's final whistle.
