Hertfordshire President's Tankard Cup Final
The first team are playing in the above cup final on the Saturday, 30th April. The game is against Harpenden but will be played at Verulamians and will kick off at 3pm. This is the first time that the club has reached a county cup final so as much support as possible would be appreciated. Please could you pass this on to all your parents as not only would it be good to have all their support but it would also be good for their sons and daughters to come and watch the 'grown ups'
5 Star Welwyn U11 are once again the best in the CountyOnce again, the U11 team showed their class in winning the County Festival, beating Harpenden 10-5 in the final. This is the 5th year in succession this squad have won their age group which is a great achievement.
Well done to the whole squad who have remained the Premier side at their age group throughout the Mini section (5 years!)

Richard Thomas Lukaemia FundOld Albanians and Welwyn after their recent charity match in aid of the Richard Thomas Lukaemia Fund which will hopefully raise about £1,700 for Leukaemia research.
U11 Tring Festival Winners Last Sunday the A squad went back to Tring to defend the Tring Festival title that they have held since they started playing Rugby at the Under 7's level. This years tournament was without doubt the toughest looking line up with most of the top Herts County teams on parade plus Chinnor and Bicester from Bucks.
We were in pool B alongside the hosts A team, Cheshunt (who had replaced Amersham), Chinnor, Hemel Camelot and Bishops Stortford. Only the top team in the pool would make the Cup final with the second placed team playing in the plate final.
With four wind and a draw, Welwyn made the final to see that our opponents for the 3rd year in succession were Harpenden, where we triumphed in a close match by 5points to nil. Alfie went up to receive the trophy from Wasps player James Cannon.
Well done to the whole squad who proved that despite being small boys they certainly have GIANT hearts!
Harry A, Gus, Bradley R, Morgan, Cameron, Adam, Louis, Alfie (Capt), Jack Briars, Johann, Keir, Eddie, James Woolley, Callum & Saul
The last home game of the season is looming and this can only mean one thing - the Annual Vice Presidents' Lunch! Please come along and celebrate the 1st XV having finally turned the corner after a couple of torrid seasons. We currently stand sixth in London League 2 North West, but if the last three results go in our favour, we should finish fourth. After a mixed start to the season, this would represent a very creditable achievement.
I am delighted to report that we have secured the services of a celebrity guest speaker in the form of everyone's favourite GP, Dr David Creak, who will give a short address.
Normal form - arrive at the club at some time after 12.00 in anticipation of sitting down at 1.00. Dress code casual/club tie. The lunch will be followed by a home league game against West London - kick-off at 3.00.
The price is a very competitive £15 for a three course lunch (excluding wine). Please complete the attached form and return it to me with your cheque to the address shown.

Under 11'S Just miss out on the Team of the Year awardOur superb U11 squad were nominated for the Welwyn & Hatfield Sports Awards "Team of the Year" which was held last Thursday evening at the Campus West Theatre. Although we were not awarded the first prize we are still very proud that our team made the final shortlist of 4 before being piped by the U14 Gosling Girls National Tennis Champions. We were also the youngest team of the 4 and so at least we have many years to receive the honours yet!
Defending Champions reach the last 8At the Etihad Semi Finals on Saturday, our Under 11 A squad were drawn up against two sides from Kent (Edenbridge & Bromley) as well as the Essex Champions, Upminster. Heavy rain had threatened the proceedings but thankfully an improvement in the weather (it couldn't get any worse!) allowed us to go ahead on the very muddy Richmond College pitches.
With wins of 30-0, 10-0 and 25-0 Welwyn topped the group and showed they are continuing last years form
So another day at the Finals (April 2nd) to look forward to when we will be hoping to get past Teddington, Tonbridge Juddians, Battersea Ironside, Ashford, Old Rutilishans, Canterbury & Upminster to defend our Harlequins crown.

On Saturday evening our Under 10,11 & 12's took part in the Hertford floodlit festival. The tournament was played across 3 ages with the club scoring the most tries taking home the cup. Unfortunately Welwyn did not manage to bring the cup home (Mainly due to Hertford Under 10's scoring 22 themselves!) however our Under 11'S were equally as successful scoring 9 Welwyn tries in 3 very good victories!
Many thanks to Hertford RFC for putting on such a very well run event that gave our children an opportunity to play on a large playing area against some very good opponents.
See the Under 11 page for the individual match reports.
Sunday 28th NovemberPlease note that all junior games today have been cancelled due to frozen pitches.
Winter BallPlease note that the Winter Ball will now be held in February 2011. Further details shortly.
